Several Republicans Oppose Voting Rights Act

We live in a nation where in at least in the South every city has distinctive black usually poorer neighborhoods.

With just this one fact how can these ‘Conservatives’ argue there is no longer a need for a strong Voting Rights Act. This act is the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Now let’s talk about Florida, probably the most progressive of the southern states. In my home town of Plant City the black neighborhood is ironically encircled by railroads tracks. Where in 2004 the Republican Party prevented eligible black votes from casting a ballot in Jacksonville. Where there are cities that hold strong to their evil racist history, where no minorities live.

These are still the facts of today.

Hell yes! The Voting Rights Act is not out dated, it must be reauthorized.

As free speaking American citizen I would like to respectively take this opportunity to call every Congressman that votes against or to waken this act a Racist.

More to come…..

GITMO: Strike #1

The new Conservative Supreme Court deals a decisive blow against the Bush Administration in declaring the Geneva Convention and the military code of conduct do apply to detainees at Guantanamo Bay Prison.

This case will bear upon, foreshadowing legal decisions to come on all questionable matters where the President claims to have far reaching powers simply because the nation is at war. Torture, Spying on U.S. citizens, Data collection on U.S. citizens, an official Executive Branch policy that states the “spirit” not the word of Geneva Convention will be applied.

What kind of illegal flip flopping law dodging jargging do you call that?

Such laws must be defined by law, they are not all encompassing within presidential powers not does the president have the authority to create such policy. The Constitution is clear the President has only the authorty to execute law, not create it. And certainly not to act before such authorities are granted by Congress.

This present Congress however, having the immediate oversight of such programs before Supreme Court have failed to perform their duty.

In light of recent policy this Congress has earned the title of the “Rubber Stamp Congress” and G.W. Bush the “Empty Suit in Chief”.

The President seems to act without respect for the word of Law and for our Constitution. Will he begin to attempt to enact programs that are solely in the "spirit" of the Constitution?

I pray not, these are Powers the President of the United States does not possess. It is the Courts whom intreprets the Law. Certainly grounds for Impeachment.

Even the new Conservative Supreme Court dominated by Roberts, Alito, Thomas and Scalia could not find reasoning within the great Constitution of the United States of America to justify our government detaining any human being indefinitely without charge and without their day in court.

The Supreme Court rendered a good judgment, standing up for pure American Justice.

C&B calls this Supreme Court Decision strike #1 in proving that warnings and opposition to such moves by the Administration were right. Once Strike #3 is reached. I predict the nation will be engaged in of the following: the Impeachment of G.W. Bush or the swearing in of a Democratic Congress.

Strike # 2& 3 could come from numerous places, but it does not take Nostradamous to make a logical guess. The truth will bring strike 2& 3 from Iraq & negative economic issues sparked by artifically inflated consumer prices by the Oil & Gas Industry. The result will be victory for advocates of a better way in the upcoming elections.

The Real Issues

The War in Iraq must be Ended. It possesses no justification, it robs money from the Homeland needs of U.S. citizens. The War in Iraq seems to be more important to the Republican Party than the Healthcare, Education, and Jobs of Americans.

The Republicans have decided to spend $90 BILLION dollars a year in Iraq. They however are opposed to spending a fraction of this amount to better education, create jobs, establish a National Healthcare Program or secure the Social Security Program.

Defending the New York Times

These Republicans in charge of Congress and the White House are corrupt idiots.

President G.W. Bush, Attorney general Gonzalez, Press Secretary Tony Snow and Senator Peter King have made comments alluding too legal action against the New York Times for simply providing information to the public.

Straight to the point, such an action would not be supported by George Washington himself. This move by Mr. G.W. Bush and Dick Cheney screams of a cover-up. Freedom of the Press supercedes all issues, and trumps concerns of Security even during war times except in the case when such reports seek to or causes harm.

The reporting on a program that may impede on the Rights of Privacy and the civil liberties of U.S. citizens is clearly acceptable and responsible.

The primary concern with this program and the NSA wire tapping program is evident. How are these programs used upon U.S. citizens? U.S. are provided rights & protections as outlined within the Constitution. The government cannot use the same programs and procedures on a U.S. citizen as it does on a foreign person linked to terrorist.

What, and how many other controversial programs is the Administration attempting too hide. What laws have they broken that they are seeking to hide form the People. If the Administration were operating within the word of the Law then the need to keep these programs secret would not be present. If the Administration were operating within the word of the Law then regular citizens whom work for the government would not be compelled to reveal these programs to the public.

These actions bring me to the conclusion the G.W. Bush Administration has several programs that maybe blatantly illegal.

The true patriots in these matters are the U.S. citizens who risk loosing their jobs to protect the Constitution. I pray that all civil servants whom are asked to perform a task they believe to be illegal and outside the Constitution to report it.

Our nation is founded not on the principle of a powerful president but on Freedoms & Liberty. Key is freedom of the free press.

The President and especially Mr. Dick Cheney insist on operating in secrecy. Congress has to do its job in providing oversight to such ‘secret; programs.

These Republicans should be ashamed. They believe that covering their asses is more important than respecting the Constitution they swore an oath to uphold.

Sarasota: Gas Station Rally

Gas Station Rally on Wednesday

Wednesday, June 28, 2006
SITE GAS STATION, 17th & Honore, Sarasota

*** Event Wed., June 28, 5:00pm ***

At Site Gas Station, Local Residents To Expose Rep. Harris as “Caught Red Handed” Taking Big Oil Money, Doing Big Oil’s Bidding
As Gas Prices Rise, National Day of Action Will Pressure House Republicans To Stand With Constituents & Stop Taking Campaign Money From Big Oil

Sarasota – On Wednesday, June 28, residents of Sarasota will hold a Rally For An Oil-Free Congress at SITE Gas Station, where they will expose Rep. Katherine Harris and other Republicans in Congress as “caught red-handed” accepting campaign contributions from Big Oil companies and then doing their bidding.

This is part of a National Day of Action that will feature events in over 250 locations around the country. As families across the country prepare to travel for July 4, rising gas prices are a big concern.

Big Oil companies have spent millions in campaign contributions to get Rep. Harris and other Republicans to hand over billions in taxpayer subsidies. Republicans have consistently rejected Democratic attempts to move toward energy independence and a national clean energy policy – instead voting to keep America dependent on oil and subsidize Big Oil at a time of record profits.

“Gas prices are soaring out of control, and that affects my family’s budget in a big way,” said local resident Anthony Brooks. “One big reason we haven’t moved toward energy independence is that Rep. Harris and Republicans in Congress are in the pockets of Big Oil – taking millions in campaign contributions and then giving billions in favors. It’s time for change in Congress.”

Since 1990, Big Oil has given more than $190 million to members of Congress – 75% of which ($142,635,314) has gone to Republicans. Republicans have then consistently done the bidding of Big Oil, rejecting Democratic proposals for clean energy.

USA Election Reforms Needed

C&B urges Congress & State legislators to act in:

Making Law that all Election Officials (Supervisors of Elections and Secretaries of States) are non-partisan professional positions.

Improving ALL electronic voting systems: providing zero room for error, in addition it is definitely not unreasonable to be able to easily audit these systems.

Make it easier for U.S. citizens to vote. Disenfranchisement especially in African American communities was far too excessively used by the Republican Party. Every eligible citizen’s vote should be counted. If someone has an ID and is registered to vote therefore being deemed eligible should have their vote counted. With all this technology why can’t it be this simple?

Should there be made LAW recourse for a citizen whose vote was not counted when it should have been?

Party officials whom seek to discard the vote of an eligible citizen should be put in jail. Public officials whom do not assure that every vote is counted should also be put in jail.

I heard of a story in Jacksonville Florida where an African American whom happened to serve in the military was designated an ineligible voter. He however was eligible to vote. His vote was never counted. Partisan politics should NEVER be allowed to enter into America’s voting system! Reforms must be made.

Great American:John Murtha

"To all the Republicans who sit in their air-conditioned offices and talk of the courage it takes for them to keep young kids in harm's way - I say enough. Karl Rove talking about "cutting and running" while he sits on his big, fat backside-saying "stay the course." I say enough! That's not a plan! We've got to have a new direction, and it's clear we need more Democrats in Congress to get that done.

No matter how obvious the mistakes in Iraq become, or how many Americans get fed up, Republicans in Congress and the White House will label you a traitor to your country if you stand up and question them.

I'm not naïve enough to think it won't be an issue in the election year but accusing people of being unpatriotic cheats good Americans out of any chance for a real resolution to the mess in Iraq. And while this issue of war is neither a Democratic nor a Republican one, the need for new leadership in the House is clearly an issue.

While the Republicans have been busy name calling, the situation in Iraq has only gotten worse. The insurgency has grown exponentially. IED attacks, where our troops are sitting ducks for an enemy they can't even see, have increased steadily. And the patience of the American people for this flawed policy is running out.

We need to put an end to these outrageous attacks on people who disagree with Bush and his Rubber Stamp Republican Congress's "sit and watch" plan for Iraq.

With a Democratic majority, we would have an honest debate about the war. The American people's concerns and opposition would be recognized.

Last week, during the House floor debate, I hoped the Republicans would have realized that the majority of the American people do not support this war. I hoped that they would have recognized that the American people need more from their government than a Republican Congress that asks no questions and demands no answers. But that didn't happen, and it's clear we need a Democratic majority to chart a new course.

When I offered a concrete plan to get our troops out of harm's way, where they have become the target, I didn't expect every member of Congress or every candidate to agree with my specific proposal in this debate. But I did expect them to acknowledge that there is more to be done than sitting and watching.

Sincerely,

Jack Murtha

Daily Rant: Iraq, Iraq, Iraq!

Republicans have gone crazy. Democrats are asleep.

Republican Congresspersons support the War in Iraq based on the premise "they rather be fighting the War on Terror in Baghdad and not in the streets of New York. "

According to C&B the United States of America is spending too many tax payer dollars in Iraq & Afghanistan and not enough on domestic homeland needs.

How in the world can you couple spending in Iraq with Hurricane Katrina relief? These Republicans have gone crazy. And where are the Democrats?

If you were in Congress, couldn't you come up with countless common sense ways to help with these problems are nation is facing. I certianly could.

We have no leadership, just partisan politicians and corrupt incompetent politicians. ALL of Them!

I see one politician, Rep. Murtha screaming about this crap. This man has my respect.

Mr. G.W. Bush is either drinking on the job or has utterly sold out to the Oil Companies and the Military Industrial Complex.

Let me tell something; the lives of the people of the Middle East is worth no less than the quality of life of Americans. So how can we have the audacity to take a war to their streets?

The issue is Iraq, not the War ion Terror. Al-queda was not in Iraq before the U.S. military invaded. The terrorist are in Iraq because of America. It is fact that Saddam Hussein did not attack the United States. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 nor were they producing terrorist.

The Bush Administration told us one thing, WMD’s to persuade the People to support a War in Iraq and now they are telling We the People many, many , many different justifications for continuing the War. This is America, we believe in Justice, so how just is it for our troops to remain in Iraq?

Mr. Bush and Republican politicians attempt to relate the War on Terror to Iraq. We all know this to be blatant misinformation. Iraq is a quagmire created by Mr. Bush and his incompetent administration.

Lets agree as seen with 9/11 there is a real ‘War on Terror‘. Why then are we not fighting this War? Why then are we diverting resources to Iraq? And even why has the full military of the United States of America been employed to fight a full scale War on Terror against sporadic Al-queda cells throughout multiple nations?

Hein sight is indicating that Iraq was a mistake diverting focus from the real ‘War on Terror’. A ‘War on Terror’ which does not call for the full American Armed Forces but which calls for targeted intelligence & law enforcement operations, along with international cooperation.

Personally as a voting tax paying American Florida born and raised, I strongly desire to see our wonderful nation, The United States of America withdraw completely from Iraq immediately.

All confidence having faded away with Mr. Bush, Congress has the POWER to do this by cutting the budget for the Iraq War.

A word from God

What America needs today is a literal word from God.

For reasons I cannot understand I have been inspired to write this brief post, days after 6/06/06.

The word of God says:

“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.” (Rev 13:18).

Just yesterday Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed near Baghdad Iraq. A man called the Prince of Al-queda in Iraq.

After “666” the very next chapter in the Bible speaks of Babylon, which today is known as Baghdad Iraq.

“And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” (Rev 14:8).

Many theologians, preachers, and intellectuals teach that of spirits. Some believe that different countries are influenced by a peculiar spirit. Also known as “Princes of Nations”.

As I sit back observing all that is happening in America I too believe that the United States is being undertaking by such negative supernatural influences. Other spiritual folk would call such influences as negative energies. Christians however believe in actual sentient supernatural forces.

One can reach no other conclusion when those that claim to be the most Conservative of Christians also support killing innocent children in Iraq. No Christian heart can find justification in such an act.

I do not believe the leaders of America who are supported by Christian Fundamentalists are actually true Christians. Evangelist Churches are mistakenly giving them their support.

Multiple Christian Churches no longer use the traditional Bible during services.

We do not need laws banning gays from marrying for they are no threats to the union between man & woman as ordained by God.

We do not need unjust Wars for they are contradictory to the very mission that Jesus Christ left to his disciples. Spread the Word of God. Today we are not only killing innocent men woman and children in Iraq thus taking lives that could be brought to Christ. But we are also giving ammunition to the growth of the Muslim Faith, decreasing the number of souls truly saved in Christ. We forget to relate the fact that Muslims respect martyrs, those that die while killing infidels.

What relationship do I speak of? We too Christians respect a martyr. Jesus Christ. Our entire faith is built on his shoulders and it is in his name we pray to God.

I see all these things as evidence of a void of spiritual leadership in America and through-out the World. There is neither pure leadership nor ethical balance coming from the Catholic Church, the Christian Church, Jews, the Muslim Faith, nor any of the great world powers.

I pray that America shall receive a word from God.

A word from God.

Ann Coulter: Chief Talking Head

Self proclaim “Conservative” Ann Coulter had the audacity to disrespect the honorable widows of 9/11 Victims.

She claims that liberals are sending out “humane shields to make political points”. How absurd, these are free American citizens whom have the right to speak their mind. These specific women from New Jersey happen to be liberal and also victims of 9/11. They are not talking heads part of some political establishment as Ann Coulter is.

It angers me at how Conservatives, whom hold the reigns of Power, continue to attempt to silence and discredit those that oppose their “heart less” agenda.

I’m happy that the Honorable Senator Hilary R. Clinton called her out.

Ann Coulters remarks have greatly diminished her already dubious credibility.

Iraq Soldiers Protest War

“Latest polls show a clear majority of Americans are now against the campaign in Iraq.

Some soldiers who have returned from Iraq are disillusioned by the experience. Inigo Gilmore reports from the US. (BBC)”

U.S. soldiers are trained to desensitize themselves from Iraq civilians. The soldier said the Iraqi civilians “aren’t people, they are animals”.

To be clear this solder was not talking about terrorist but ALL innocent Iraqi citizens.

Impeachment: Nixon, Clinton, Bush?

I would like to bring attention to this speech in regards to the impeachment of President Richard Nixon. Presently the United States is engaged in a discussion of impeaching our current leader Mr. G. W. Bush. History tells us that Congressmen whom vote to impeach the President do not necessarily want the President removed from office. Impeachment can be a means for the People to seek answers to paramount questions , such as those that are currently not known to the public nor Congress.

Barbara Jordan: Statement on the Articles of Impeachment
delivered 25 July 1974, House Judiciary Committee

“Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

Mr. Chairman, I join my colleague Mr. Rangel in thanking you for giving the junior members of this committee the glorious opportunity of sharing the pain of this inquiry. Mr. Chairman, you are a strong man, and it has not been easy but we have tried as best we can to give you as much assistance as possible.

Earlier today, we heard the beginning of the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States: "We, the people." It's a very eloquent beginning. But when that document was completed on the seventeenth of September in 1787, I was not included in that "We, the people." I felt somehow for many years that George Washington and Alexander Hamilton just left me out by mistake. But through the process of amendment, interpretation, and court decision, I have finally been included in "We, the people."

Today I am an inquisitor. An hyperbole would not be fictional and would not overstate the solemnness that I feel right now. My faith in the Constitution is whole; it is complete; it is total. And I am not going to sit here and be an idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction, of the Constitution.

"Who can so properly be the inquisitors for the nation as the representatives of the nation themselves?" "The subjects of its jurisdiction are those offenses which proceed from the misconduct of public men."¹ And that's what we're talking about. In other words, [the jurisdiction comes] from the abuse or violation of some public trust.

It is wrong, I suggest, it is a misreading of the Constitution for any member here to assert that for a member to vote for an article of impeachment means that that member must be convinced that the President should be removed from office. The Constitution doesn't say that.

The powers relating to impeachment are an essential check in the hands of the body of the legislature against and upon the encroachments of the executive. The division between the two branches of the legislature, the House and the Senate, assigning to the one the right to accuse and to the other the right to judge, the framers of this Constitution were very astute. They did not make the accusers and the judgers -- and the judges the same person.

We know the nature of impeachment. We've been talking about it awhile now. It is chiefly designed for the President and his high ministers to somehow be called into account. It is designed to "bridle" the executive if he engages in excesses. "It is designed as a method of national inquest into the conduct of public men."² The framers confined in the Congress the power if need be, to remove the President in order to strike a delicate balance between a President swollen with power and grown tyrannical, and preservation of the independence of the executive.

The nature of impeachment: a narrowly channeled exception to the separation-of-powers maxim. The Federal Convention of 1787 said that. It limited impeachment to high crimes and misdemeanors and discounted and opposed the term "maladministration." "It is to be used only for great misdemeanors," so it was said in the North Carolina ratification convention. And in the Virginia ratification convention: "We do not trust our liberty to a particular branch. We need one branch to check the other."
"No one need be afraid" -- the North Carolina ratification convention -- "No one need be afraid that officers who commit oppression will pass with immunity." "Prosecutions of impeachments will seldom fail to agitate the passions of the whole community," said Hamilton in the Federalist Papers, number 65. "We divide into parties more or less friendly or inimical to the accused."³ I do not mean political parties in that sense.
The drawing of political lines goes to the motivation behind impeachment; but impeachment must proceed within the confines of the constitutional term "high crime[s] and misdemeanors." Of the impeachment process, it was Woodrow Wilson who said that "Nothing short of the grossest offenses against the plain law of the land will suffice to give them speed and effectiveness. Indignation so great as to overgrow party interest may secure a conviction; but nothing else can."

Common sense would be revolted if we engaged upon this process for petty reasons. Congress has a lot to do: Appropriations, Tax Reform, Health Insurance, Campaign Finance Reform, Housing, Environmental Protection, Energy Sufficiency, Mass Transportation. Pettiness cannot be allowed to stand in the face of such overwhelming problems. So today we are not being petty. We are trying to be big, because the task we have before us is a big one.

This morning, in a discussion of the evidence, we were told that the evidence which purports to support the allegations of misuse of the CIA by the President is thin. We're told that that evidence is insufficient. What that recital of the evidence this morning did not include is what the President did know on June the 23rd, 1972.

The President did know that it was Republican money, that it was money from the Committee for the Re-Election of the President, which was found in the possession of one of the burglars arrested on June the 17th. What the President did know on the 23rd of June was the prior activities of E. Howard Hunt, which included his participation in the break-in of Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist, which included Howard Hunt's participation in the Dita Beard ITT affair, which included Howard Hunt's fabrication of cables designed to discredit the Kennedy Administration.

We were further cautioned today that perhaps these proceedings ought to be delayed because certainly there would be new evidence forthcoming from the President of the United States. There has not even been an obfuscated indication that this committee would receive any additional materials from the President. The committee subpoena is outstanding, and if the President wants to supply that material, the committee sits here. The fact is that on yesterday, the American people waited with great anxiety for eight hours, not knowing whether their President would obey an order of the Supreme Court of the United States.

At this point, I would like to juxtapose a few of the impeachment criteria with some of the actions the President has engaged in. Impeachment criteria: James Madison, from the Virginia ratification convention. "If the President be connected in any suspicious manner with any person and there be grounds to believe that he will shelter him, he may be impeached."

We have heard time and time again that the evidence reflects the payment to defendants money. The President had knowledge that these funds were being paid and these were funds collected for the 1972 presidential campaign. We know that the President met with Mr. Henry Petersen 27 times to discuss matters related to Watergate, and immediately thereafter met with the very persons who were implicated in the information Mr. Petersen was receiving. The words are: "If the President is connected in any suspicious manner with any person and there be grounds to believe that he will shelter that person, he may be impeached."

Justice Story: "Impeachment" is attended -- "is intended for occasional and extraordinary cases where a superior power acting for the whole people is put into operation to protect their rights and rescue their liberties from violations." We know about the Huston plan. We know about the break-in of the psychiatrist's office. We know that there was absolute complete direction on September 3rd when the President indicated that a surreptitious entry had been made in Dr. Fielding's office, after having met with Mr. Ehrlichman and Mr. Young. "Protect their rights." "Rescue their liberties from violation."

The Carolina ratification convention impeachment criteria: those are impeachable "who behave amiss or betray their public trust."4 Beginning shortly after the Watergate break-in and continuing to the present time, the President has engaged in a series of public statements and actions designed to thwart the lawful investigation by government prosecutors. Moreover, the President has made public announcements and assertions bearing on the Watergate case, which the evidence will show he knew to be false. These assertions, false assertions, impeachable, those who misbehave. Those who "behave amiss or betray the public trust."
James Madison again at the Constitutional Convention: "A President is impeachable if he attempts to subvert the Constitution." The Constitution charges the President with the task of taking care that the laws be faithfully executed, and yet the President has counseled his aides to commit perjury, willfully disregard the secrecy of grand jury proceedings, conceal surreptitious entry, attempt to compromise a federal judge, while publicly displaying his cooperation with the processes of criminal justice.

"A President is impeachable if he attempts to subvert the Constitution."

If the impeachment provision in the Constitution of the United States will not reach the offenses charged here, then perhaps that 18th-century Constitution should be abandoned to a 20th-century paper shredder.
Has the President committed offenses, and planned, and directed, and acquiesced in a course of conduct which the Constitution will not tolerate? That's the question. We know that. We know the question. We should now forthwith proceed to answer the question. It is reason, and not passion, which must guide our deliberations, guide our debate, and guide our decision.

*I yield back the balance of my time, Mr. Chairman.*”

Marines Massacre Iraqi Civilians?

The question is not did U.S. Marines kill innocent Iraqi children, but it is how many more innocent civilians are being killed?

What right, policy, or justification does America have in this incident in Iraq. I see none. This was a War of Choice which from the beginning barely a majority of U.S. citizens were opposed too.

U.S. Rep. Colonel Jack Murtha said U.S. Marines Kill Iraqi Civilians "in Cold Blood" .

Under the leadership of Mr. G.W. Bush, Secretary Rumsfeld and General Casey this War of Choice continues to produce results of failure and incompetence. A CEO for any company would have been FIRED long ago for such a record.

More to come....

Fighting for Homeless Vets

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that as many as 400,000 American military veterans are homeless at least part of the time. And veterans of America's latest wars are adding to those numbers.

It's estimated that hundreds of recently returned veterans of the war in Iraq are living on the streets.

Herold Noel, an Iraq war veteran who found himself suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder -- and living out of his car in Brooklyn -- is the focal point of Dan Lohaus' documentary When I Came Home.

The film follows the stories of homeless veterans from the Vietnam War to the present conflicts, and the growing effort to address their needs.

"Bush tells working folk to go to hell"

Dobbs: Bush, Congress tell working folk to go to hell
By Lou DobbsCNN

Wednesday, May 24, 2006; Posted: 12:30 p.m. EDT (16:30 GMT)
Editor's note: Lou Dobbs' commentary appears every Wednesday on CNN.com.

Lou Dobbs says President Bush and Congress are part of an "elitist war on the middle class"

NEW YORK (CNN) -- President Bush says that the installation of the new Iraqi government was a "watershed event," but at the same time warns Americans of the challenges and loss as we continue to prosecute the war against Iraqi insurgents. Sen. Harry Reid declares that legislation that would render English the national language is racist.

Thirty-seven Democrats vote for full amnesty for all illegal aliens in this country, even though nobody really knows whether the number is 11 million, 12 million or 20 million. The Senate Republican leadership demands that a "comprehensive immigration reform" plan must be passed before this Memorial Day weekend. And the president signs into law a tax cut that raises taxes on the educational funds of teenagers saving for college.

Never before in our country's history have both the president and Congress been so out of touch with most Americans. Never before have so few of our elected officials and corporate leaders been less willing to commit to the national interest. And never before has our nation's largest constituent group -- some 200 million middle-class Americans -- been without representation in our nation's capital George W. Bush's approval ratings have slumped to the lowest of his presidency. The approval rating for Congress is even lower, and nearly three-quarters of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction.

But what is our government doing about that? The president is staying the course in Iraq and apparently demanding little of his generals to create a new, far more effective strategy for urgent success. Of course, he also wants a guest-worker program and amnesty of millions of illegal aliens. And Congress, faced with midterm elections in just over five months, is intent on giving the president what he wants and telling working men and women and their families, American citizens all, to go to hell.

Illegal aliens are more important to this Congress than securing our borders and our ports, more important than those legal immigrants who have waited in line and who follow the law. The Senate has added to the litany of lunacy that makes up what it calls reform: Illegal aliens would only have to pay back taxes on three of the past five years, they will not be prosecuted for felonies such as identity theft or purchasing or using fraudulent Social Security cards, and unlike millions of visa holders who have to leave the country to have them renewed, they may simply remain in the United States while this Congress and this president give away all the benefits and privileges of American citizenship.

This is an outright assault in the elitist war on the middle class. And working men and women who've already borne the pain of losing good-paying manufacturing jobs and having middle-class jobs outsourced to cheap foreign labor markets are faced with the onslaught of more illegal immigration and cheap labor into the American economy. This president and Congress talk about bringing illegal aliens out of the shadows while they turn out the lights on our middle class.

President Bush and his most trusted advisers tell us how well our economy is doing, how many jobs have been created and how so-called free trade will enrich the lives of the same people whose livelihoods these policies are destroying.

It's hard not to think of the trusted adviser to Catherine the Great who sought to hide from her the embarrassing and shoddy condition of Ukrainian and Crimean villages by having elaborate facades built to divert her attention and to mask an uncomfortable reality. I don't know whether Karl Rove is President Bush's Grigori Potemkin or whether George Bush has created Potemkin villages all by himself. But the facades are cracking, and phony fronts of failed policies are quickly crumbling.

Six thousand unarmed National Guardsmen working as adjunct rear support to our undermanned, under-equipped Border Patrol is not border security. Three million illegal aliens continue to cross our borders and depress wages by hundreds of billions of dollars every year. The millions of manufacturing and middle-class jobs lost over the last five years have been replaced by lower-wage employment.

The president's faith-based commitment to so-called free trade will likely lead to a $1 trillion U.S. current account deficit this year and a trade debt of $4.5 trillion after 30 years of trade deficits. And while the president and Congress point to No Child Left Behind as a solution to our educational crisis, we're failing an entire generation of Americans whose test scores continue to fall and whose high school dropout rates would be embarrassing to a third-world country.

And a third-world country is what we will be if our elected officials don't soon come to their senses.

The Next American Idol

C&B is taking a break from politics to discuss the next American Idol.

My vote always went to Paris whom was voted off then I voted for Elliot. Paris, a bright young African American woman, and Elliot, a deserving young man who endured many medical problems as a child. Both of these contestants would have made great Idols unfortunately the most deserving hardly ever win in America.

It is now down to Kat and Taylor. Let’s see hat happens.

Time to Call Bush on Lawbreaking

By Jesse Jackson
The Chicago Sun-Times
Tuesday 16 May 2006

"The National Security Agency has created "the largest database ever" with the phone records of millions of Americans provided to the NSA by AT&T, Verizon and Bell South for a price. The NSA says it used the records to trace patterns - data mining - in the hunt for terrorists. The agency got neither warrants nor permission from the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. As Republican Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter admitted, the FISA law "has been violated." But that's not all that is violated.

The Fourth Amendment of the Constitution protects the privacy and liberty of Americans. It says the government can't search or seize you without a warrant issued on probable cause to believe you are involved in a crime. This right is the line between a democracy and a police state, where the state can search or seize at will. That is the line that the NSA program erased.

President Bush authorized the program and defends it. "We are not trolling through the personal lives of millions of innocent Americans," he said last week. How do we know? The court set up to provide warrants has been ignored. The law set up to regulate the system has been trampled. How do we know the president is telling the truth? Trust us, he says.

Trust the president who led us into Iraq on the basis of disinformation and misinformation? Trust the president who just weeks ago told us the NSA program involved only international calls with al-Qaida? The same president who said he'd fire anyone in the White House who helped leak the identity of Valerie Plame, the undercover CIA employee whose husband helped expose Bush's lies about Iraq's nuclear capacity? Now, with Karl Rove in the center of the effort to discredit Wilson and out Plame, the president says he has no comment on a continuing criminal investigation.

This isn't a routine Washington dustup. This concerns the trampling of the Fourth Amendment by the government and the sale of our privacy by the phone companies. And it isn't an isolated case. Bush, along with Vice President Dick Cheney, who is the major force behind this thing, believes the president acts above the law in the war on terror. He claims the right to make war without a congressional declaration; to surveil Americans without warrant; to arrest us without probable cause; to hold us without a hearing; to deny us the right to counsel or even to hear the charges against us if the government decides, on the basis of evidence they need not produce, to tag us as accomplices in the war on terror.

Now most Americans would gladly sacrifice some of our liberties if it would increase our security against another Sept. 11. Bush counts on that feeling when he acts above the law. But the entire fabric of our freedom is woven into a system of checks and balances.

Here, all the checks and balances have been tossed aside. Qwest, the only honorable phone company, refused to cooperate with the NSA in this program without a warrant or permission from the FISA Court. NSA refused to produce either; the FISA court was ignored. The NSA and the administration have simply refused to supply information to Congress, and the lame Republican Congress has refused to hold them accountable. When the Justice Department's independent Office of Professional Responsibility opened an investigation on the lawyers who signed off the program, the White House refused to provide the secrecy clearances needed to have the investigation go forward. "Trust us," the president says, and then he ensures that we have no choice but to trust him, since every legal check and balance is locked out.

It is time for accountability. Two public-interest lawyers have sued Verizon for $5 billion for violating the law, which should force the administration to defend the program before an independent court. Don't hold your breath for this Congress to hold hearings. But Democrats should stand up and promise an in-depth series of investigations of this administration and its lawlessness - from Halliburton's making off with billions in sole-source contracts to the cesspool of hidden prisons to the trampling of liberties at home.

We wage the war on al-Qaida terrorists in defense of our freedoms. We'd better make certain this administration isn't shredding those freedoms along the way."

National Security Conversation

The Conservative attempts to circumvent laws such as the 4th Amendment, & the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act justified only by asserting these changes are in the name of national Security is absurd, illegal, unaccountable, and unethical.

Laws must be followed with no deviation. National Security is not justification enough to support creating new programs, first without Congressional approval.

The laws must be changed first.

ALL policy should not be based on public opinion. The founders of our nation intended to secure freedoms for all Americans not simply a mob majority rule. That is why all States have equal representation within the Senate. They were intelligent enough to foretell corrupt people abusing their powers like we see now.

If the NSA & CIA cannot act within the Law then hell yes there operations need to be brought into the Sunshine.

Every agency within the U.S. government must be held accountable. There must be Checks and Balances at all levels.

The full Congress is not even aware of the activities of such agencies.

This is unacceptable within the United States of America.

An elected member of Congress is just as privileged to intelligence information as a 4 Star General. It is through this oversight that Congress is charged to do, that WE the people exercise our American birthright of democracy.

****With ZERO exception any surveillance upon a U.S. citizen must follow the book, not some ad-hoc program created in the name of National Security!!!

Gen. Hayden is Not fit to Head CIA

Any member of Congress that votes to confirm General Hayden to head the CIA will be ending their political career.

Hayden directed the NSA’s Domestic Surveillance program, and also directed the collection of millions of U.S. phone calls for customers of AT&T Corp., MCI, Sprint, Verizon Communications Inc. and BellSouth Corp.

His role in these operations makes him an unacceptable candidate to continue to serve the American people.

The complexity of these issues are political HOT!

The matter of General Hayden’s involvement with 2 NSA Programs whose Constitutionality are in question is paramount to his appointment. These programs have not been proved to be legal because the Republicans refuse to allow for real investigations.

Furthermore it has not been made clear that the rules of FISA Courts are followed when surveillance is being conducted on a U.S. citizens. My position has been clear from the beginning. When it come to U.S. citizens the book must be followed zero exceptions.

It does not matter what opinion polls say, as public servants these people swear an oath to Executive the laws established by Congress not to make them. It was my understanding that traditional Conservatives too would support such my position.

This all began with Joe Wilson and his wife Valarie Plame, an CIA agent and has led us to a point where the position of the Directorship of the CIA is of great concern to the American public. The CIA and NSA both organization whom once held the complete trust and of the of the public, now whose operations both in sever question.

Years ago I had a gut feeling the moment that President Bush said in his State of the Union Speech “that terrorist were obtaining yellow cake uranium from Africa” that something was deadly wrong with Bush and his administration. An African nation who can barely produce food nether less high grade nuclear material.

All of these issues are connected and my gut tells me if we had an Attorney General other than friend of G.W. Bush Gonzalez that many more government officials besides Scooter “Loose-Lips” Libby would be indicted.
Administration policy is so corrupt that certain legal matters must be addressed:

"When sensitive intelligence is leaked it effects national security G.W. Bush". Mr. Bush authorizes the leak of classified information himself for political reasons, not reasons of National Security so this statement is clearly a contradiction.

My concern is the definition of sensitive.

Why is Congress asking for information from AT& T, Bell south and Verizon opposed to getting it directly from Executive Branch.?

Information is being collected on persons with known links to terrorist.
My concern is the definition of links.

The Price of Gas: Part IV

Gasoline Prices - How Are Gasoline Prices Normally Calculated?

FACT:
Crude Oil 49%
Federal/State/Local Taxes 26%
Refining 15%
Marketing/Distribution/Profits 10%

Comments:
Crude Oil is the greatest factor in determining Gas Prices. So why when Crude Oil goes down a buck or $2 our prices at the pump contines to go up like .10 cent a week?

I believe its Greed & Corruption.

Even the Republican Attorney General of Florida is implying that price gouging may be in play.

http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/news/14483366.htm

As for Congress, let me tell you something. These Republicans in charge in Washington D.C have sold out the government and forgotten their trust to the people. This Corrupt Congress passed some crazy bill allowing for fines upon Oil Companies for price manipulation, but failed to define the terms for determining such manipulation. Come on!!!

Mr. G.W. Bush is simply absent.

Come November 2006 these folk are going to be greatly surprised. I predict the entire House will be overturned because of these gas prices not to mention a few dozen other things. This is a much greater political crisis than the Iraq War because it effects all Americans right in their bank accounts.

The Price of Gas: Part III

This crisis with the price of gas is far to crucial to not respond to out right lies given by politicians and greedy Oil Executives.

This is what I know and have observed.

There seems to be Two Americas. The poor to middle class and the well off. Some say Liberals and Conservatives. Personally I have observed there is also a segment of citizens whom cannot traditionally be called Conservatives because they do not care about spending or accountability for Republicans. They tend to identify as Conservatives, I would call them Radical Christians whom put aside intellectual reason and put their trust in what they hear coming from the Government even though fact are contrary.

The division of America by conservative leaders is no accident.

I respect & work with many of these Radical Conservatives. One day while discussing gas prices 1 of them said that this something we’ll have to live with for 3 more years as stated by a G.W. Bush official.

I strongly disagree because I believe we are being cheated by the Oil Industry.

You see a person like myself when I hear such comments from the government remembers when gas was just a buck $1.50 3 years ago. I remember when Hurricane Katrina was used as an excuse for high gas prices. I know for a fact that supply has actually increased approximately 15%. If you understand economics & the markets, the reason given by politicians & Oil Executives, this increase in supply should have decreased the price of gas. When I see that Oil Companies have posted record profits so high they could pay the National annual deficit of America I know that too much is wrong.

Too me it is like a used car salesman trying to sell you lemon. We the American people, have a bunch of lemons running our government in Washington D.C. and our State capitals.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a Radical Conservative, Conservative, Liberal, Independent. You need transportation, our children’s schools need these moneys in the class room not all spent on gas for buses, and we ALL deserve to the ability to save our hard earned income not give it too greedy excessive Oil companies CEO’s.

Florida Politics: Governor ‘s Race

I predict that Rod Smith- Democrat and Charlie Crist- Republican will be the contenders to be the next governor of Florida.

Both men are addressing crucial issues to citizens utilizing their current respective positions.

Smith has proposed election reforms such as verified voting & measures to restore confidence in the new electronic voting systems.

Crist is discussing investigations of Oil Companies and price gaulging.

Both issues are very important to Floridians. The candidate which is most successful in their efforts will cause many swing voters to support them.

My initial oppostion to Charlie Crist was that he was not using his position as Florida Attorney General to purse the Oil Companies. This could be a major Democratic campaign strategy against him. His recent moves shows that he is aware of this lack of action. This may be the issue that wins the election.

More to come…….

Money for Iraq: A Must Pass Bill?

There is no Bill that is immune to being rejected. We now constantly hear of funding for the Wars in Iraq and on Terror as “must pass bills”.

The proposed Emergency & Supplemental Spending for Iraq must be rejected.

In addition there are several other financial matters to discuss.

Congressmen are pressured to “bring home the bacon” to their home districts by abusing earmarks. In my opinion there’s no more bacon left. Its time to cut back on government spending, not from already stripped domestic programs but from the Dept. of Defense, the Iraq War, Congressional earmarks, and the Dept. of Homeland Security.

Soaring gas prices are also related to the corruption in Congress. The current fiscal irresponsibility is related to corruption and void of moral accountability.

Lobbyist have more access & influence to government than everyday citizens.

A prime example of such a lack of accountability is the former WH House Budget Director Josh Bolten who oversaw the current deficit spending now being promoted to WH Chief of Staff. Personally I viewed Bolten give a presentation on the budget where he expressed concerns about the deficit but entirely ignored the cost of supplemental & emergency upon the deficit.

These words from Mr. G.W. Bush reminds me of a quote from South Park by Eric Cartman, 'Respect My Authority! '

This War in Iraq has been the central goal of the Republican controlled government. However a goal that is no longer embraced by the American people. This War must be ended immediately so that the United States can move forward with its economy and mending its deep political divisions. I do not agree with Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s statement that “the United States is on the brink of civil war“, however the severity of the polarity of current U.S. society has not been as such in decades.

After having a conversation with a former soldier he says all troops in Iraq could be removed in 3 months.

Talk about Impeachment

For some time there has been much talk about Impeaching the G.W. Bush Administration. The prime goal would be too remove Bush and Cheney both from Office through legal or procedural means.

The pieces are beginning to come together:

1) Rep. Jon Conyers Jr. of Michigan legislation for Investigations on the Iraq War and Impeachment
http://www.house.gov/conyers/

2) Senator Russ Finegold of Wisconsin move for Censure

3) The Illinois State legislature is exploring the power of states to call for removing Mr. G.W. Bush

4) California State discusses Impeaching Bush and Cheney
http://shows.airamericaradio.com/play.php?file=RandiRhodes/2006/APRIL/4-25-06/Randi_4-25.wma

April 22, 2006Bush Impeachment - The Illinois State Legislature is Preparing to Drop a Bombshell Utilizing a little known rule of the US House to bring Impeachment charges by Steven Leser The Illinois General Assembly is about to rock the nation. Members of state legislatures are normally not considered as having the ability to decide issues with a massive impact to the nation as a whole. Representative Karen A. Yarbrough of Illinois' 7th District is about to shatter that perception forever. Representative Yarbrough stumbled on a little known and never utlitized rule of the US House of Representatives, Section 603 of Jefferson's Manual of the Rules of the United States House of Representatives, which allows federal impeachment proceedings to be initiated by joint resolution of a state legislature. From there, Illinois House Joint Resolution 125 (hereafter to be referred to as HJR0125) was born. Detailing five specific charges against President Bush including one that is specified to be a felony, the complete text of HJR0125 is copied below at the end of this article. One of the interesting points is that one of the items, the one specified as a felony, that the NSA was directed by the President to spy on American citizens without warrant, is not in dispute. That fact should prove an interesting dilemma for a Republican controlled US House that clearly is not only loathe to initiate impeachment proceedings, but does not even want to thoroughly investigate any of the five items brought up by the Illinois Assembly as high crimes and/or misdemeanors. Should HJR0125 be passed by the Illinois General Assembly, the US House will be forced by House Rules to take up the issue of impeachment as a privileged bill, meaning it will take precedence over other House business. The Illinois General Assembly joins a growing chorus of voices calling for censure or impeachment of President Bush including Democratic state committees in Vermont, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Nevada and North Carolina as well as the residents themselves of seven towns in Vermont, seventy Vermont state legislators and Congressman John Conyers. The call for impeachment is starting to grow well beyond what could be considered a fringe movement. An ABC News/Washington Post Poll Conducted April 6-9 showed that 33% of Americans currently support Impeaching President Bush, coincidentally, only a similar amount supported impeaching Nixon at the start of the Watergate investigation. If and when Illinois HJR0125 hits the capitol and the individual charges are publicly investigated, that number is likely to grow rapidly. Combined with the very real likelihood that Rove is about to be indicted in the LeakGate investigation, and Bush is in real trouble beyond his plummeting poll numbers. His cronies in the Republican dominated congress will probably save him from the embarassment of an impeachment conviction, for now, but his Presidency will be all but finished.---------------------------------------------------------HJ0125 LRB094 20306 RLC 58347 r 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION2 WHEREAS, Section 603 of Jefferson's Manual of the Rules of 3 the United States House of Representatives allows federal 4 impeachment proceedings to be initiated by joint resolution of 5 a state legislature; and 6 WHEREAS, President Bush has publicly admitted to ordering 7 the National Security Agency to violate provisions of the 1978 8 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a felony, specifically 9 authorizing the Agency to spy on American citizens without 10 warrant; and 11 WHEREAS, Evidence suggests that President Bush authorized 12 violation of the Torture Convention of the Geneva Conventions, 13 a treaty regarded a supreme law by the United States 14 Constitution; and 15 WHEREAS, The Bush Administration has held American 16 citizens and citizens of other nations as prisoners of war 17 without charge or trial; and 18 WHEREAS, Evidence suggests that the Bush Administration 19 has manipulated intelligence for the purpose of initiating a 20 war against the sovereign nation of Iraq, resulting in the 21 deaths of large numbers of Iraqi civilians and causing the 22 United States to incur loss of life, diminished security and 23 billions of dollars in unnecessary expenses; and 24 WHEREAS, The Bush Administration leaked classified 25 national secrets to further a political agenda, exposing an 26 unknown number of covert U. S. intelligence agents to potential 27 harm and retribution while simultaneously refusing to 28 investigate the matter; and 29 WHEREAS, The Republican-controlled Congress has declined HJ0125 - 2 - LRB094 20306 RLC 58347 r 1 to fully investigate these charges to date; therefore, be it2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 3 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 4 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the General Assembly of the 5 State of Illinois has good cause to submit charges to the U. S. 6 House of Representatives under Section 603 that the President 7 of the United States has willfully violated his Oath of Office 8 to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United 9 States; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That George W. Bush, if found guilty of the 11 charges contained herein, should be removed from office and 12 disqualified to hold any other office in the United States.
NOTE: Sec. 603. Inception of impeachment proceedings in the House. In the House there are various methods of setting an impeachment in motion: by charges made on the floor on the responsibility of a Member or Delegate (II, 1303; III, 2342, 2400, 2469; VI, 525, 526, 528, 535, 536); by charges preferred by a memorial, which is usually referred to a committee for examination (III, 2364, 2491, 2494, 2496, 2499, 2515; VI, 543); by a resolution dropped in the hopper by a Member and referred to a committee (Apr. 15, 1970, p. 11941; Oct. 23, 1973, p. 34873); by a message from the President (III, 2294, 2319; VI, 498); by charges transmitted from the legislature of a State (III, 2469) or territory (III, 2487) or from a grand jury (III, 2488); or from facts developed and reported by an investigating committee of the House (III, 2399, 2444). In the 93d Congress, the Vice President sought to initiate an investigation by the House of charges against him of possibly impeachable offenses. The Speaker and the House took no action on the request since the matter was pending in the courts and the offenses did not relate to activities during the Vice President's term of office (Sept. 25, 1973, p. 31368; III, 2510 (wherein the Committee on the Judiciary, to which the matter had been referred by privileged resolution, reported that the Vice President could not be impeached for acts or omissions committed before his term of office)). On the other hand, in 1826 the Vice President's request that the House investigate charges against his prior official conduct as Secretary of War was referred, on motion, to a select committee (III, 1736). On September 9, 1998, an independent counsel transmitted to the House under 28 U.S.C. 595© a communication containing evidence of alleged impeachable offenses by the President. The House adopted a privileged resolution reported by the Committee on Rules referring the communication to the Committee on the Judiciary, restricting Members' access to the communication, and restricting access to committee meetings and hearings on the communication (H. Res. 525, Sept. 11, 1998, p. 20020). Later, the House adopted a privileged resolution reported by the Committee on the Judiciary authorizing an impeachment inquiry by that committee (H. Res. 581, Oct. 8, 1998, p. 24679). The authority to appoint an independent counsel under 28 U.S.C. 573 expired on June 30, 1999.

The Price of Gas, Part II

In regards to current Oil Market I believe we are being ripped off.

You all are aware that other countries that have higher gas prices are 1)Socialist 2) Have better transportation infrastructure.

It will be ashamed if we in the United States will be paying $3 to $5 bucks, the same as Socialist European nations while we claim to be a capitalist country. This capitalism is supposed o keep prices fair to the consumer. How can you folk now ague that we are close to paying the same for gas as a Socialist country like Great Britain who uses these added tax revenues for government services?

Simply put, we are being cheating out of our hard earned money by the Oil Companies.

When I originally made this post gas as $2.73 then, $2.93, now it is $3.01. All of this in a span of 3 weeks. Um, did we have another Hurricane? These current prices are not a laughing matter, poor people, seniors on a fixed income, working people, business owners, contractors all are affected. Just 3 years ago gas was about $1 buck.

The rise in Gas prices is frankly, pardon my French: Bull Shit!

The President and Congress must instruct the Department of Justice and District Attorney Offices to speed up investigations of price gauging, and to make this a first priority. Congress must convene an emergency session to draft legislation to regulate the Price of Gas within the United States.

For those of you who fall for the explanations given to you by rich big mouths like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and Fox News. Let me tell you something: "Exxon is giving Lee Raymond one of the most generous retirement packages in history, nearly $400 million, including pension, stock options and other perks, such as a $1 million consulting deal, two years of home security, personal security, a car and driver, and use of a corporate jet for professional purposes."

I am educated on economics, according to the existing body of knowledge any economist that will tell you this all the markets at work, supply and demand is a fool! The Oil Companies are not struggling, supply has not tightened. India & China have not used amounts of Oil at a rate to affect supply within the United States. President G.W. Bush did authorize Oil to be released from ANWAR, what the hell happened to it? China increased added to Oil supplies by developing drilling sites.

Someone on the Radio said these gas prices aren’t that bad, and are not having a strain on the Economy when adjusted for inflation. My first reaction to such comments is WTF!!!

We the People of the U.S., need to do something about this. Being the liberal I am told I would like to the Presidents of the Oil Companies, Oil Lobbyist, every corrupt Congressperson, Dick Cheney and Mr. Bush ( Will no longer refer to him as President) dragged into the streets of Washington.

You can keep an eye on the Oil Companies by checking out this web site: http://www.consumerwatchdog.org/energy/gasprices/

Eliminating Abortions: Gods’ work or Politics

Is preventing abortions the will of God or simple politics? This is the crucial question in regards to overturning Roe v. Wade.

USA Today’s Susan Page reports the nation is ambiguously divided on the 1973 Supreme Court Case Roe v. Wade. The court case which established the Right to Privacy including ‘a women’s right to terminate her pregnancy’.

Page breaks the States down into 3 categories:
States likely to protect access to abortion- 16
States likely to significantly restrict access to abortion - 22
States in the middle-12

USA Today Gallup Poll states that 60% Americans oppose bans on abortion rights by State. 36% of Americans support such bans.

Christianity possessions a central tenant across denominations holding that an individual freely chooses their Faith. Why then does the Christian Right community find it difficult to transfer this same idea of personal choice to private decisions. Religious liberty is a prime example. Surely, Baptist would not accept being legally forced to worship the same way as a Catholic does simply because the Catholics may be the Faith presently holding political power.

Conservatives today seem to have the goal of micro-managing and interfering in the private matters of individuals and families. The Bible, the word of God does not clearly allude to abortion therefore the division caused by this issue has no religious merit.

Nor I do not believe it is a justifiable mission for the Church to divert resources to wage a political campaign against abortion.

What Would Jesus do? Or a more precise question, What would Jesus have us do?

When I speak of our Church I am referring to all Christian based faiths: Catholic, Orthodox, Protestants, Baptist, Methodist, Adventist, Evangelist, Episcopal, Lutheran, Jehovah Witness, Non-Denominational, and the Jewish community respective fully.

An appropriate approach for the Church would be to lessen situations where a mother must choose to abort her child.

An appropriate approach for the Church is to improve conditions of families in poor communities economically and through education.

In a utopian society there would be no situation where an unwanted child is conceived.

In a utopian society there would be no situation where a parent(s) could not care for their child.

Why not are these goals not the mission of the Church?

While religious institutions engage in divisive political goals lacking of sincere compassion for all life, where assassins of abortion doctors are breeding generations of children are being left behind. These same ‘Conservatives’ advocate cutting government funding for social services that care for these children and funding for educational and schools to develop them into becoming productive citizens.

These divisive political goals are utterly in contradiction to the teachings of the Bible, and the ‘Conservatives’ professed compassion for life.

Christianity, its Evolution in America.

Recently after watching a Christian TV Show I have been inspired to discuss matters dealing with the evolution of the Christian Faith within the United States.

This new millennium without a doubt is providing a great challenge for people of faith. The Church is growing however in my opinion not in the manner Jesus Christ would have directed. The Bible even warns that there will be many churches but only 1 will truly be serving God. I don’t believe the Bible provides such warnings and is full of words such as “heed” and “fear” for us Christians to ignore.

Many of us believe we are living in the End Times. So why are we then willing to allow for the integrity of our Church to deteriorate. When I speak of our Church I am referring to all Christian faiths: Catholic, Orthodox, Protestants, Baptist, Methodist, Adventist, Evangelist, Episcopal, Lutheran, Jehovah Witness, Non-Denominational.

I believe the church should approach all current political issues of today more liberally. At least from my observation of current affairs within the United States the church is siding with those that call themselves Conservatives.

However you see this Conservative ideology seeks to constrict personal freedom. Religious institutions exist because of the existence of such civil liberties and personal freedoms. I cannot therefore understand why especially Evangelistic Churches have sided with Republicans politically. These Churches are being used as political pawns. These Republican politicians will throw your interest aside as soon as they can gain another larger base constituency such as the Hispanic vote as we are seeing debated in Congress in the Spring of 2006.

In regards to the Iraq War I cannot understand how a true Christian cannot at least question what is happening! We pray for the sick, witness to complete strangers to attempt to bring them to Christ, and we believe in the value of life period. A Christian heart inspired by the Holy Spirit seeks peace. The Bible tells us: “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God.” Matthew 5:5

Fortunately there are many denominations that tend to consist of members that are aware that we as Christians should support political movements that seek to expand civil liberties to assure that our freedom to practice our religion however we please will never be infringed upon.

In addition to this debate in regards to civil liberties there are 4 other matters that are shaping the evolution of the Christian Faith within the United States. And let me offer a precursor to all of these matters. I personally do not support them. To help you more understand my perspective I’ll offer you this old saying” the devil is liar”. Christians believe we are waging spiritual war against evil. Evil whose power as stated in the Bile lies in deception. I believe this evil has deceived the United States Christian Church and rendered it nearly useless in this spiritual & moral war fare.

These matters are: indulgence on power and prosperity, spirits of prophecy or in other words psychic and demonic powers, a lack of humbleness and meekness leading to materialism, irrational ideas that lead to oppressive values.

1) indulgence on power and prosperity
Biblical texts are clear that the work of the Church is not to facility its members to achieving financial affluence but it is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. From my observation persons that claim to be ministers of God whom expose success and self help could be easily replaced by an atheist motivational speaker without much notice.

2) spirits of prophecy or psychic and demonic powers
After watching a Christian TV Show and hearing a person claiming to be a minister ask for viewers to call and he would mail them a prophecy I was divinely inspired to write this post. This question, I ask you: when did the Christian Church start believing that demonic spirits such as psychics were fare game within the Church? This is not something in my opinion that is open for interpretation. Yes many faiths believe that God blesses certain individuals with specific holy gifts. Example are speaking in tongues and healing but I have always questioned the gift of prophecy. The example Christians are to follow is that of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not go around like a psychic predicting futures but he healed the sick and fed the hungry. In my opinion the gift of prophecy is either a shame or a tool of the devil to infiltrate our churches.

What use does predicting the future have in the church for our lives which is in the hands of God?

3) Irrational ideas that maybe oppressive.
Christians today speak strongly and even in a hateful tone about homosexuals. They fail however to do the same for those that commit adultery which is not only mentioned 100 times more in scripture but is also part of the 10 commandments. I make this comparison to support my belief that Churches are simply being used as pawns by politicians to win elections. Molding our opinions when this is not what God would have for us. Jesus would have our Church accept all persons. Didn't he say "come as you are." The issue of Marriage is being used to politically manipulate Christians.

4) a lack of humbleness and meekness leading to materialism
There was a time that none of us remember when a man of God was proud to be humble and meek. Now our Pastors drive Mercedes Benzes and wear the most expensive suits and demand such luxuries. The Pope wears red Armani shoes. And good lord, nothing seems to be wrong with the church. Jesus Christ the son of God labored as carpenter and walked around in a robe. And you tell me these luxuries that breed superiority is where Jesus Christ would lead our church? I don’t believe so, and I would like to see the Mercedes sold and given to charity. The pastor would look fine in a Toyota. The word of God tells us: that “the meek shall inherit the earth: and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”-Psalm 37:11

You see God knows the plans he has for you and they are outlined within the his word, the Bible. Even amongst the Wars of Biblical times to the prophecy of Revelation never does the Bible imply that Christians are to seek to force our faith onto the non-believers through political means. The foundation of our Christian faith hinges upon acceptance of our faith by sinners after receiving witness, observing a Christian, and hearing the word and no other way should Christians seek to expand our faith.

Checks & Balances Blog is primarily political. I however do post often about religion because today I am close to fearful that the line between separation of church and state ahs been crossed. Christians must be vigilant to guard against evil influences like ALL politicians whom do not have the best interest of our Faith and Religious Institution at heart. Politics is a game of winning your vote and your money. Christianity is a work of winning your soul. The two do not and will never mix.

The Price of Gas

Just today the price of gas has reached $2.73 in Sarasota, FL. A $.10 cent jump in one day.

This I believe, the rise in gas prices is not the economic market at play. It is not because of the cost of refining oil. It is not based on the principles of supply and demand. The reason is simple. The Oil Industries is criminally ripping every America citizen off! Just a few years ago the price for a gallon of gas was $1 buck. Can you afford to pay 3 times more for your normal trips? I sure as hell cannot.

What measures can we the people take when we’re are being ripped off? Our money says “In God we Trust”. Trust what? I tell you what; for the government to enforce fairness & justice especially in business & commerce. However our present government is not “Godly”, they are corrupt. Our government continues to fail to represent us. Every U.S. State and District Attorney should be investigating and suing Oil companies. All state governors and the President should be calling for Congressional regulation of the oil industry.

Here locally, I hope to organize protest at gas stations and even the offices of private citizens that own large shares in Oil Companies. I call for individuals to do the same. All I’m calling for is fair business and fair gas prices. What we’re seeing now is price gauging and frankly when this begins to hit peoples pocket books mixed with all the other crap going on with our government there may be an unexpected back lash to the detriment of Oil companies.

This is nation founded on people standing up for their rights and fair protections for their money. Remember the Boston tea Party? I believe its time for the people to take direct action against these Oil Companies carrying on the rebellious legacy of the settlers of our great nation. Big

Business is only out to turn a profit and the government is in different and helping them. CEO and stock holder efforts to seek profits which should balanced with fair prices, and consideration of the good of the public. A basic principle, of markets and trading not a far fetch idea. The cost place don consumers over the cost of production. The Oil Industry has been posting raced profits in the Billions ever quarter. Companies that simply break even are doing good. This clearly shows their prices are artificially inflated, literally ripping the American people off.

Too many things are costing more today than just a couple years ago. Hell in Florida insurance prices are rising. When the heck is Big Business gonna realize they have drained the pocket books of the average citizen enough? Even the government is out to get your money & disposal income, that is why there were proposed changes to Social Security.

Its all about disposal income. Big business wants your money, and so does the government. We have to stand up against these criminals.

Lets talk about immigration.

From first thought I would have to say I am in the middle on this issue and have not reached an opinion. Comments are welcome in the “comments” section of this blog. For what its worth I’ll also add that I am from Plant City FL, The Winter Strawberry Capital of the World so this issue of agriculture is home to me.

I continue to hear folk say that immigrants are doing jobs that Americans will not do. As a person that thinks outside the box my initial reaction to such remarks are that such statements are bloated with overtones of the superiority of Americans over Mexicans.

Why not bring these jobs to communities consisting of American citizens? Why not educate certain communities of these employment opportunities by building Job centers and Day Labor centers directly in the middle of certain neighborhoods. I speak specifically of neighborhoods within the African American Community.

I must say I am in the middle on this issue because I am fine with authorized or unauthorized law abiding, tax paying immigrants who are here to work. But frankly, I would rather see a push to fill these jobs with African Americans to further the economic base of this American community which would bolster the U.S. economy on a whole. Those who oppose giving these jobs to Americans are Big Business whom do not want to pay a living wage. Thus they employ illegal immigrants, which is tantamount to a new age of voluntary slavery.

So where do these more affluent Americans have to go? Are you telling me our economy is full of high paying jobs that the average Americans can obtain, so we can leave the dirty work to immigrants? I don’t think so! Took me about 6 months to find a job 2 years ago.

The Service sector, agriculture, construction, child care are all industries that at one time were held by blacks. Some say the African American community is becoming more affluent thus not needing these jobs and as the President of Mexico said “these are jobs even blacks don‘t want to do“. President Fox is also asking for more cooperation from the U.S. Let me tell you something the United States owes Mexico nothing and I believe that not one American tax dollar should be spent on Mexican infrastructure as President Fox is talking about. In addition, raising living standards of Mexican citizens is Fox’s job, not that of the United States. The black community does need and will do these jobs. I pray black leaders and communities will take serious notice to these immigrants whom are seeking jobs that should go to Americans first. We should join them or stand up to protect our jobs & families.

The more jobs that goes to a non U.S. citizens robs from our nation and our families.

There should be a Law giving preferential employment to American citizens in all industries.

And to my immigrant friends, if your loyalties lie with another country and is not at least dually in the interest of America then go back!

After greater emphasize is placed on offering these jobs to Americans then of course let these law abiding immigrants legal or illegal contribute to the economy of our nation thought their labor.

All this blabber in Congress about a Guest Worker Program, Amnesty, etc... This is the fault of political leaders for letting this problem escalate to this point.

The practical thing to do first is to more tightly control the border. We cannot change immigration policy while thousands of illegal immigrants continue to enter our country annually. Deal with the border first. It is impossible to deport those here already so this is not an option.
A solution could be bringing troops home from Iraq and deploy them on the border to protect our Homeland and economic interest.

CNN News & Fox Entertainment

I watch both CNN & Fox.

From observation I believe it is evident that CNN is a news outlet and that Fox is entertainment.

CNN reports the news. It does report more heavily on certain issues.

Fox presents news with opinion coupled with a partisan agenda.

I know first hand that Bill O'Reily and Sean Hannity are not news reporters but entertainers and frankly fabricators. They consistently present false information.

From living in Tampa Florida where O'Rielly has roots he sparked a controversy that cost a Muslim family their livelihood, whom was later found innocent in a court of law.

Sean Hannity is saying that “WMD's in Iraq were moved to Syria”. No government agency, the President nor the military has stated this.

I can respect a TV station that has a certain ideology, liberal or conservative but giving false information to the public while claiming to be news I can not respect.

In the name of a Soldier

The War in Iraq is such a complex issue that it would take a series of books to comprehensively discuss.

One conclusion has been reached by a significant portion of American citizens, whom let me say are paying for this quagmire; the conclusion that every single U.S. troop should be brought home immediately.

There could be 3 perspectives to view this War:

The liberals hope to see the War to End based on good American principles: that justification for going to War were false, too many American soldiers lives are being lost, too many innocent civilians especially children are being killed, liberals value domestic home town needs over interfering in the affairs of foreign nations, and because citizens of Iraq are rebelling against U.S. occupation of their land.

Conservative want the U.S. to stay because they believe we have blown the country of Iraq up and it is our responsibility to fix what we messed up. They also are not tolerate of the Arabian culture nor Muslim faith and live in fear of another 9/11 attack.

The Neo cons would want the U.S to stay in Iraq until the country is submitted under American influence similar to Israel to ensure U.S. economic and security interest.

And all Americans wanted too or believed we were entering Iraq to liberate its people, destroy any weapons of mass destruction, to get rid of Saddam Hussein and frankly all Americans at least thought of an opportunity to secure Oil for America. Now, we know all these things were utopian illusions.

So what’s the better way? The answer is the way that is best for the people of Iraq.

I have a simple analogy that some Christians reading this post may be able to understand.

Going to church as boy a friend always stayed after to help clean up after service. One day I saw him sweeping the church sidewalk. I walked up to him and asked him how much are they paying you? He said “nothing. I then asked “so why are you doing this”? He replied “cuz its our church” and he kept sweeping.

Sometimes you just have to do what’s right when its right with no self interest and that is what we as a nation must do with Iraq. We have wasted time, wasted tax money and squandered any beneficial opportunities. America needs to clean up and leave Iraq. Its that’s simple.

Rep. Jack Martha a Democrat has presented an alternative plan that is available on his web page. I agree with his plan. I would like to see all troops withdrawn except approximately 20,000 remaining to conduct specific projects with the approval of the Iraqi government. We should complete the construction of the U.S. Embassy but remove all other military basses. And we should continue to provide economic and reconstruction aid.

In regards to Iran, it takes no idiot to know that Iran is directly adjacent to Iraq. We must not be tempted to invade Iran nor continue to agitate this sovereign nation.

Call this pacifism, but the United States is under the leadership of an incompetent & corrupt Administration. We must bring our troops home and sort out this mess we have made led by independent non partisan citizen commissions beginning with President G.W. Bush to the intern that made copies of false intelligence reports leading to this tangled web of a War in Iraq.

What we as American citizens must do is demand that Congress end the War in Iraq by cutting its budget, if not then we should take to the streets in civil disobedience in the name of innocent Iraqi children and if this not good enough for you, then in the names of our fallen men and women in uniform.
